Job Description: MicroAlign is developing revolutionary technology capable of aligning multiple optical fibers within fiber arrays, independently and simultaneously. In 2024 MicroAlign will employ the alignment technology to realize ultra-high accuracy fiber arrays.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research & Development Engineer to join our team in the Netherlands. As an R&D Engineer specializing in opto-mechanics, you will play a crucial role in driving innovation and advancing our fiber array alignment technology. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to develop our new generation fiber array.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Conduct research and development activities focused on opto-mechanics technologies, including but not limited to optical fibers, actuators, optical imaging, optical assembly.

  2. Design and simulate optical components and systems using advanced software tools such as MATLAB, Zemax, or COMSOL.

  3. Prototype, test, and validate systems in laboratory environments.

  4. Contribute to intellectual property development through patent drafting and technology disclosures.

  5. Support product commercialization efforts by providing technical expertise and assisting in product launch activities.

  6. Participate in project planning, resource allocation, and milestone tracking to ensure timely delivery of R&D initiatives.

Qualifications & skills:

  1. Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, Photonics, Mechanics, or related field.

  2. Proven experience in research and development within the field of photonics and optical assembly, preferably in an industrial setting.

  3. Proficiency in optical design software tools such as Zemax, MATLAB, or COMSOL.

  4. Hands-on experience with optical testing equipment and techniques.

  5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.

  6. Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.

  7. Self-motivated individual with a passion for innovation and technology development.

  8. Prior experience in project management or product development is a plus.
